T-Mobile's G1 Android Phone: 1.5 Million Sold... Or Not

The new T-Mobile G1 Android phone may... or may not... have pre-sold over a million units.
"Just a week before T-Mobile's much anticipated G1 Android smart phone hits the streets Oct. 22, rumors are swirling that preorders have hit 1.5 million," writes eWeek's Roy Mark. "T-Mobile has refused to confirm or deny the rumors."
InformationWeek's Marin Perez isn't buying it. "T-Mobile, HTC, and Google haven't commented on this report, but wouldn't you expect them to confirm this as soon as possible if it's true?" he writes. "I'd expect press releases, banner ads, and people yelling in the streets if the G1 already has sold more than a million units."
Ultimately, of course, the exact number doesn't really matter. "Although some technology experts have suggested that the estimate of 1.5 million pre-orders is too high, there's little doubt that expectations of the G1 are high ahead of its launch," notes The Daily Telegraph.
