Verizon Wireless Intros USB1000 Global Modem

Verizon Wireless yesterday introduced the $150 Verizon Wireless USB1000 Global Modem, which supports data connectivity worldwide. GlobalAccess Monthly Data Plans are available at $130 for up to 100 MB or $220 for up to 200 MB. Pay Per Use Plans are also available.

"Designed by Novatel Wireless, the USB1000 combines - get this - CDMA EVDO Rev A on 850/1900 MHz, HSDPA/HSUPA on 850/1900/2100 MHz, and GSM/EDGE on 850/900/1800/1900 MHz," writes Gearlog's Sascha Segan. "In English, that means it can access high-speed networks here and abroad; it comes with a special SIM built in for when travelers leave the US. All that network switching comes thanks to a Qualcomm MDM 1000 Gobi chipset."

"Verizon is partly owned by Vodafone and is leveraging this relationship to provide mobile broadband access across the globe," notes InformationWeek's Marin Perez.
