Virginia Governor Promotes Wireless AMBER Alerts
Filed in archive Mobile by jeff goldman on June 22, 2006

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine this week urged state residents to sign up for the state's new Wireless AMBER Alert program, which sends text messages to users' cell phones regarding child abductions. The alerts are localized to the user's zip code.
"We have all seen and heard news stories about child abductions across the country, and wish we could do more to help," Kaine says. "With this innovative Wireless amber
Alert system, more of us can play a role in promoting child safety. Millions of people use mobile phones and PDAs as part of their daily routines, and with this technology, those individuals now can help us locate and recover abducted children."
The State of Virginia press release is here, and more information is available here from The Wireless Foundation.
