Wi-Fi Alliance Plans First Global Wi-Fi Summit in China

Wi-Fi Planet's Eric Griffith reports that the Wi-Fi Alliance has announced plans for the first Global Wi-Fi Summit in China, to be held at the Presidential Plaza Beijing on September 26th and 27th.
"China is very important to the Wi-Fi industry, due to increasing adoption of the technology in Chinese homes and enterprises, as well as the key role that Chinese firms play in the development of Wi-Fi equipment and services," says Wi-Fi Alliance managing director Frank Hanzlik.
"One question still unanswered is how this event impacts the plans the PRC has for Wi-Fi," Griffith writes. "In the past, China has pushed for the inclusion of WAPI (WLAN
Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure) as part of or as replacement for the 802.11 standards on which Wi-Fi is based. In 2003, the PRC began to require WAPI support in WLAN products sold in the country."
