Wi-Fi Hotspots: We Won't Pay!
Filed in archive Wi-Fi on April 12, 2006

JupiterResearch announced today that the adoption of public Wi-Fi grew 43 percent between 2004 and 2005. A report entitled 'Public Wi-Fi: Capturing Paying Customers in an Increasingly Competitive Space' looks at public demand for hotspots, and offers suggestions on how hotspot providers can capture and grow market share.
"While the adoption of public hotspots is growing rapidly, willingness of consumers to pay for access is not keeping pace," says JupiterResearch analyst Ina Sebastian. "Business users are most likely to pay for use, but there isn't enough frequent use to drive adoption of subscription models yet."
According to the report, 58 percent of users say they'll only use a hotspot if it's free.
