Wireless Week notes today that research firm Research and Markets has issued a report entitled Wi-Fi for Voice: Consumer Research Around Wi-Fi Phones, which finds that most consumers feel it's unlikely that a Wi-Fi-only phone will ever replace their cellular phone.
"The report also says that nearly 25% of respondents expressed absolutely no interest in wi-fi phones, citing Wi-Fi's limited range and possible quality of service (QoS) issues as major obstacles," the article states.
According to a statement from the firm, "Although Wi-Fi-only phones have been out on the market since 2000 -- starting in the business segment and moving to the consumer space -- this market has never managed to ramp up or attract much consumer interest."
