WiMAX on Hold

Filed in archive WiMax/WiBro by jeff goldman on January 18, 2006

Not Just 4 Techs notes today that the standard for fixed WiMAX is still up in the air (pun intended...) -- while initial standards were released in November, they haven't yet been ratified. Further information is expected this week at the Wireless Communications Association International's 12th Annual Symposium & Business Expo.

At Techworld.com, Stephen Lawson goes into detail on this -- Lawson's excellent article explains the issues involved, including the political challenges of keeping the WiMAX Forum's various members happy while finalizing the new standard. The article quotes Monica Paolini of Senza Fili Consulting as pointing out that with any technology, the first interoperabilitylinks tests are the hardest nut to crack.
