TMCnet's Michelle Pasquerello picks up on a new report from TelecomView entitled Broadband Strategies for the Fixed Market, which states that WiMAX is leading the broadband market, and will compete easily with DSL.
The analyst firm says the WiMAX network market is expecting to gain 88 million subscribers, leading to $43 billion in system spending by 2011.
"Our business cases show that WiMAX will be competitive with fixed DSL services where copper loops are in place," says Bob Larribeau, principal Analyst at TelecomView. "However, WiMAX is the only choice where copper is not available."
As a result, the report states, developing countries are an ideal target for the technology.
