Wi-Fi Networking News' Glenn Fleishman takes a look at the Wireless Harlem Initiative, which is aimed at bringing affordable and widely available wireless broadband to the historically African-American neighborhood, and which recently hired consulting firm Civitium.
"Harlem
has 225,000 residents, and a vast amount of outside interest, as it is one of the founding and present centers of African-American culture," Fleishman writes. "There's money waiting to be spent, clearly, on any efforts that can improve the quality of life, education, and financial status of the area's residents."
"The Wireless Harlem Initiative states in its FAQ they'd like to have service up and running by Spring 2007," he adds. "This move to hire the preeminent plan writers is a big step towards producing a biddable, buildable service."
