Wireless Interactive Brings Wi-Fi to Iraq

ITP's Stuart Wilson reports that Wireless Interactive has announced the completion of its newest wireless network deployment in Iraq using Orion 900 MHz radios for the backbone infrastructure and RedFire 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi access points for local connectivity.
"Satellite is Iraq's only source for incoming and outgoing Internet traffic, linking the country to the rest of the world," says Mohammed Omed Ali, CEO of Impulse for Communication and IT, one of Wireless Interactive's partners. "However, this traffic must be redistributed using other means. Given the lack of wired infrastructure, wireless is the only option."
"We have had tremendous success in the past with the RedFire product line," Ali says. "Due to Wi-Fi congestion, it has been difficult to get to hard-to-reach places. The Orion-900 has filled the void. It allows us to extend our customer reach twice that of the RedFire, to remote locations. We then utilise the RedFire to provide Wi-Fi coverage to the public. What is special about the Orion-900 is that each installation does not have to stop there. The same unit can act as a repeater in order to extend our network reach even further in the future."
"With the Orion-900 radio, we have been able to extend our reach even further into Iraq than ever before," says Michael Avramidis, president of Wireless Interactive. "With this major accomplishment behind us, we can concentrate on providing Internet connectivity to thousands of Iraqi
civilians."
