iTWire's Stuart Corner reports that a new industry group, the WiMAX Spectrum Owners Alliance (WiSOA), has been formed to bring owners of WiMAX spectrum together in order to promote the technology, deal with interoperability issues, and establish global roaming agreements.
The group's founding members are Unwired Australia, Network Plus Mauritius, UK Broadband, Irish Broadband, Austar Australia/Liberty Group, Telecom New Zealand, WiMAX Telecom Group, Enertel and Woosh Telecom. No word yet from Sprint or Clearwire, but the organization is doing its best to persuade them to join too...
The group's next meeting is planned for December. "WiSOA has announced its intention to sign the first international WiMAX roaming agreement in December," Corner writes. "This will cover all WiMAX services and operate across all WiMAX frequency ranges
, and will act as the backbone of a future global WiMAX network that adheres to the 802.16e standards."
