WNP Comes to Canada

Digital Home looks at the imminent arrival of Wireless Number Portability (WNP) in Canada on March 14th, freeing Canadian mobile users to change carriers at will.
"Wireless number portability is finally becoming a reality in Canada because of a December 2005 decision by Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) that requires Bell Mobility, Rogers Wireless and the mobility division of TELUS Communications Inc. to implement WNP by March 14th in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Québec," the article states. "Throughout Canada, all wireless carriers will be required to release a phone number to another carrier (port-out customers) and by no later than September 12, 2007, to accept a phone number from another carrier (port-in customers)."
The article offers some suggestions for dealing with changing your carrier, including the sensible warning that the process is unlikely to be trouble-free.
