Yoshi’s Island 2 for Nintendo DS: Why Wi-Fi?

Kotaku today released a boxshot of Yoshi's Island 2 for the Nintendo DS, which includes a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection logo. As Robotube observes in a response to the post, "Wi-fi logo. Wonder how that's gonna work."
As DSRevolution points out, "Nintendo seems to have taken an approach at a complete juxtaposition to their previous ideals. Years ago with the GameCube Nintendo declared that the public didn't want online capabilities and so never started an online project. Yet here they are seemingly adding online capabilities to games that don't warrant it in any obvious form."
1UP.com's Patrick Klepek may have the answer: "The recently released box art indicates the game will feature a previously unannounced multiplayer mode playable over Wi-Fi Connection," he writes. "As British Gaming Blog points out, the original featured a multiplayer mode unlockable via button commands (while at the level select screen, hold down SELECT and type: X X Y B A), so we're not surprised Nintendo's sneaking in something similar for the follow-up. At least this one won't be a secret."
And in a reply to the British Gaming Blog post, Doobie suggests, "I imagine the Wi-Fi link-up will be a 'first to finish the level' challenge, like in Sonic Rush. But still could be quite fun."
The game's due out on November 13th — we'll (obviously) know more then.
